Vanilla-Ginger Asian Pears

The crisp, juicy texture and sweet, nearly-floral flavor of Asian pears require puny accompaniment. These pears attain no longer soften when ripe; clutch uniformly firm, unblemished fruit when browsing.

Substances

  • 2 medium Asian pears, cored and quartered

  • 1 piece (2 inches) ginger, thinly sliced

  • 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped, pod reserved

  • 1 cup packed gentle-brown sugar

  • 4 cups water

  • Store-equipped cookies, a lot like Jules Destrooper wafers, for serving (elective)

Instructions

  1. Cleave every pear quarter lengthwise into 4 slices, and situation in a giant bowl. Bring ginger, vanilla seeds and pod, sugar, and water to a boil in a little saucepan for 3 minutes. Pour mixture over pears. Press a little bit of parchment straight on flooring, and refrigerate till frigid, about 1 hour. Discard vanilla pod and ginger. Divide pears among 4 bowls, and aid with cookies or wafers on the aspect if desired.
